Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has sent a response to Ghana legend Abedi Pele on his comments about the negative effect of players shifting their focus to the Arab and Gulf lands.
Gyan expressed disappointment in Abedi’s supposed comments citing that ‘The Maestro’ was one of those who advised him to take the offer from Al Ain because he had also played there.
“I’m surprised about Abedi’s comments. I have played in those countries that he is talking about: Italy, France and England. With my move to Al Ain, he was even instrumental in all of it. He advised me to join them because he had also played there. He further advised me not to pay heed to what Ghanaians will say about my move. And I also felt that for a legend like Abedi, whom I recognize as Ghana’s best player of all time to take a phone to advise me on this was good counsel but for the same person to turn round and grant an interview to say such things, I am really surprised and disappointed in him.” Asamoah Gyan told Kumasi based Angel FM.
This reaction comes in the wake of an interview Abedi Pele granted and reckoned that the influx of Ghanaian footballer to the Arab Land and the Far East was going to be detrimental to the Black Stars in the future.
