UPDATED: Presidential Press Corps Involved In Fatal Accident; One Dead...

Peacefmonline.com authoritatively confirmed that the media bus conveying journalists assigned to the presidency has been involved in a fatal accident on the Afienya-Dawhenya road when returning from an official assignment.

Scores of journalists are reportedly battling for their lives following the accident which occurred at Doryumu junction in the Shai Hills area in Greater Accra on Thursday afternoon, after suffering severe head injuries.

The journalists were travelling in a Ford bus which was not part of the presidential convoy.

The bus was heading to Accra from the Volta Region where the President reportedly attended the annual convention of the EP Church, Peacefmonline understands.

According to Graphiconline's Benjamin Xornam Glover who visited the scene a few minutes ago, the police have confirmed that a Ghanaian Times reporter perished in the presidential press corps accident.

"The Times reporter, Samuel Nuamah was said to have died on the spot, the Doryumu-Asutuare District Police Commander, ASP Stephen Addom confirmed," he said.

A total of 12 people were said to be on the vehicle, a GMC Savana Van with registration number GB 506 – 12, at the time of the incident.

According to the police the left rear tyre of the vehicle burst and in an attempt to control the vehicle, the driver applied the brakes and the vehicle veered off the road.

Victims of the tragic accident have currently been rushed to the 37 Military hospital.

The President's vehicle was not on the trip.

Four top Ghanaian journalists are battling for their lives after the van of the presidential press corps was involved in a fatal accident Thursday.

The quartet include Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Pascaline Adadevoh and Napoleon Ato Kittoe of GTV, Patrick Bida of the Enquirer and William Gyentu of Peace FM.

They were airlifted by helicopter to the 37 Military Hospital, an official statement said.

Besides the four who are in critical conditions at the Emergency Trauma and Surgical Department of the 37 Military Hospital a few of the journalists on board sustained serious injuries.

The bus “skidded off” the road around Shai Hills, the communications minister Edward Omane Boamah said in a statement.
The deceased Nuamah left behind a wife and a daughter who are both based in the United States.
