In the wake of the attacks on Paris that gripped the world last week, you may have heard some things about Abdelhamid Abaadoud, the man suspected of masterminding the attack. Here are some things you should know about the alleged terrorist.
He was born in Belgium. His parents immigrated there from Morocco in 1975. He has five more siblings.
Contrary to what you may think, Abaaoud lived a privileged life. His father’s clothing store afforded him and his brothers a comfortable lifestyle. He even attended College and was enrolled in an exclusive private school in a high-end area of Brussels.
He’s also a thief. Abdelhamid was arrested for petty crime in 2010 after being caught stealing on a number of occasions.
He also rose the ranks in ISIS pretty quickly. After joining the terrorist organization in 2014 and moving to Syria, Abdelhamid quickly became involved in many operations and attacks. He was even linked to the man who attempted an attack on a French train in August.
His own family hates him. They’ve even said they want him dead. When rumors emerged that he had perished while fighting in Syria, his family hoped it was true.
His family may get their wish as there are reports that the mastermind was killed during the police raid in Paris on November 18th. While French officials have yet to confirm, senior European Intelligence officials have told the Washington Post that he is in fact dead.
